The Most Important AI Story of 2026 Isn’t About AI. It’s About Power
ANTHROPIC LAUNCHED FABLE 5, THE WORLD’S MOST POWERFUL AI MODEL ON JUNE 9.
3 DAYS LATER, THE US GOVERNMENT SHUT IT DOWN.
EVERYWHERE. INCLUDING INSIDE AMERICA.
AND THE REASON IS THE MOST IMPORTANT AI STORY OF 2026.
—
June 9, 2026. Anthropic launched Claude Fable 5.
State of the art on nearly every AI benchmark ever tested.
Exceptional performance in software engineering, scientific research, coding, and knowledge work.
The most capable AI model ever made available to the general public.
June 12, 2026. 5:21pm ET. Three days later.
US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick sent a letter to Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei.
Fable 5 and Mythos 5 are now subject to export controls.
Cannot be exported outside the US.
Cannot be transferred to foreign persons inside the US.
Anthropic disabled both models for every customer on earth immediately.
No warning. No migration window. Just gone.
Why?
Another company claimed it successfully jailbroke Mythos, Anthropic’s most powerful and restricted model raising national security concerns inside the Trump administration.
The administration had previously tried to stop Anthropic from releasing Fable 5 at all.
It failed.
So when the jailbreak claim emerged, it acted immediately.
.
.
.
Anthropic’s response:
“We believe the government’s directive is based on a narrow, non-universal jailbreak involving capabilities that are already available in other models including OpenAI’s GPT-5.5.”
Translation: the government shut down our model for a vulnerability that already exists in a competitor’s model that is still fully available.
Same day this happened — SpaceX raised $75 billion in its IPO.
Here is what Rich Dad would say.
The most powerful technologies in history have always attracted the attention of governments, not to accelerate them, but to control them.
The printing press. Nuclear fission. The internet. Encryption.
Every technology that fundamentally shifts the balance of power gets regulated, usually badly, usually reactively, and usually by people who do not fully understand what they are regulating.
AI is no different.
The government that failed to stop the release shut it down three days after launch based on a jailbreak that already exists in a model it has not shut down.
That is not national security policy.
That is panic dressed up as policy.
The companies that own AI infrastructure are worth trillions.
The governments trying to control AI infrastructure do not fully understand it.
June 9. Launch.
June 12. Shutdown.
Three days.
Crazy!
